Supporting Independence in Daily Life

A 2-hour workshop for parents and carers

Does your child find everyday tasks like dressing, toileting, or mealtimes tricky?

Are daily routines often a source of stress or overwhelm?

Would you like practical tools to help your child become more independent and confident?

This hands-on workshop is designed for parents and carers of autistic children who want to understand how to support their child’s daily living skills in a way that is realistic, respectful, and empowering.

Led by a Specialist Occupational Therapist, the session focuses on helping families break down barriers to independence and create supportive routines at home.

Over two hours, we will explore:

Understanding the foundations of independence — including sensory, motor, and emotional factors that influence everyday activities

Key daily living skills such as dressing, toileting, feeding, and sleeping

Practical tools and strategies to help your child build skills and confidence at their own pace

Creating supportive routines and environments that reduce stress and promote success

Opportunities to ask questions, reflect on your child’s strengths, and share experiences with others

This workshop aims to empower parents and carers with the knowledge and confidence to support their child’s independence in meaningful, achievable ways — helping daily life run more smoothly for the whole family.
