Supporting Your Child to Understand and Manage Emotions

A practical 2-hour workshop for parents and carers

Does your child find it hard to express or manage their emotions?

Do meltdowns, shutdowns, or emotional outbursts feel overwhelming for you both?

Would you like practical tools to help your child feel more grounded and regulated?

This engaging workshop is designed for parents and carers who want to better understand their child’s emotional world and learn practical strategies to support emotional regulation in everyday life.

Combining theory and hands-on learning, the session introduces approaches from the Emotions Works programme alongside practical grounding techniques that you can use at home.

Over two hours, we will explore:

How emotions work — understanding the building blocks of emotional development and regulation

An introduction to the Emotions Works programme, helping children recognise, label, and communicate their feelings

Grounding and calming strategies — practical techniques to help your child return to a regulated state during moments of overwhelm

How to support your child’s emotional literacy through everyday routines and conversations

Opportunities to reflect on your child’s needs, ask questions, and share experiences with other parents and carers

Led by a Specialist  Occupational Therapist or Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, this workshop offers a balance of theory and practical tools, empowering you to support your child’s emotional wellbeing with confidence and understanding.
